Feathery Delight

Howdy, it's Holly posting today!

Remember my Glittery Pineapple card that I posted for the Stencil challenge? I tried that glitter technique again with this Peacock Feather stencil and I was more careful about wiping all the glitter off. I think this one turned out great!

I used the following products on this card:

6" x 6" Double sided adhesive

Handmade Hawaiian Coconut and Palm Oil Soap

Peacock Feather (brass stencil)

Glitter: Green Nugget, Lacy Lilac, Misty Blue Ultra Fine

and Crystal Ice

Kraft cardstock

Lady Kate Edger (Cheery Lynn Designs)

Floral Vintage Labels Two (JustRite)

I did the same thing I did for the Glittery Pineapple card. I cut some of the double sided adhesive paper so it was slightly larger than the Peacock Feather stencil, then cut some white cardstock slightly larger than that.  I carefully adhered the 6" x 6" Double sided adhesive paper to the white cardstock, soaped up the back side of the Peacock Feather stencil with the coconut soap, and carefully placed the stencil (soap side down) onto the adhesive.

This time, I carefully glittered the outside of the stencil with the Green Nugget glitter, and then I used a tiny spoon to put some of the green glitter onto the edges of the feather.  I shook off the excess glitter, and then added some of the Misty Blue Ultra Fine glitter next to the green glitter on the feathers.  Finally I added the Lacy Lilac glitter to the middle of the feather and filled in all the areas that were still bare with Crystal Ice.

Next, I very carefully wiped off the stencil, making sure all the excess glitter was gone.  I carefully peeled the paper away from the stencil and then covered the exposed adhesive with the Crystal Ice glitter.  Then I let out a little squeal of joy at how pretty and glittery this turned out!

I cut out some blue cardstock with the Lady Kate Edger die, glued it behind the left side of my peacock feather piece and glued that down onto a  card Kraft base.  I stamped the sentiment from the Floral Vintage Labels Two stamp set onto some Kraft cardstock and cut it out with a notch on the right side and glued it to the bottom of the card.

This card is actually a different size than what I normally make.  Because this stencil is so tall and skinny, I thought it would be fun to mail this in a 3 5/8" x 6 1/2" envelope, so I made my card base 3 1/4" x 6".  The glittered feather fits perfectly on this size of card.

Garden Fronds

Hello, it's Jenn today! I am sharing a card that was inspired by our challenge this week which is to use a stencil on your card.  I sure hope you will play along with us! 

I started my card with a pre-made Kraft card base. I cut a piece of white cardstock that was 1/4 inch smaller on all sides than the base.

Using a low tack tape, I secured the plastic Memory Box Garden Fronds stencil to the white cardstock. Using the Dreamweaver's Paste Spreader, I scooped out some Translucent Embossing Paste and spread it over the stencil. Using the edge of the spreader, I smoothed the paste down and removed any excess and put it back into the jar. 

Now, it's time for the fun to begin!  I removed all the tape and slowly lifted up the stencil.  I saw a lovely white paste imprint of the Garden Fronds.  Using some chunky glitter I had in my stash, I covered the white paste with glitter. Once I was certain I had all the paste covered, I turned the cardstock over and tapped off the excess. Oh how pretty the reveal was! 

Once I was certain the glitter and paste were set, I distressed the edges of the white cardstock and then inked them with chalk ink. 

In the bottom right corner, I stamped a little sentiment, one that is perfect to brighten anyone's day.

Glittered Pineapple

Hi folks, it's Holly posting today!

Did you see the new challenge that was posted on Monday? This week is all about stencils, so I decided to try a technique that I've read about for years but never actually attempted.  I tried the Glitzy technique from Technique Junkies, and it is a lot of fun!

First, I cut some Scor-Tape 6x6 Double sided adhesive just slightly larger than the Dreamweaver Large Pineapple brass stencil. I also cut some white cardstock which is just slightly larger than the 6x6 double sided adhesive I just cut.  I carefully peeled the liner away from the back of the adhesive and adhered it to the white cardstock.

Next, I pulled out the Handmade Hawaiian Coconut and Palm Oil Soap and rubbed it all over the back of the brass pineapple stencil. There were some tiny pieces of shaved soap here and there so I used a brush to swipe those shavings away. I peeled the liner off the top of the adhesive (the piece that was already adhered to the white cardstock) and very carefully placed my stencil over the adhesive with the soap-side down.  

You need the soap-side of the stencil to go down onto the adhesive so you can pull the stencil away from it when you are done.  If you don't soap up the stencil, your stencil is going to be stuck to the adhesive permanently.

With my stencil in place, and my ceiling fan OFF (hehe!), I took the lid off my Autumn Medley glitter. I used a tiny spoon to carefully sprinkle the glitter all over the bottom of the pineapple. Once the entire bottom was covered, I shook off the excess glitter and returned it to the jar. Then I repeated the process with the Meadow Spark Ultra Fine Glitter and applied it to the leafy tops of the pineapple.  

After I shook off the excess glitter from the pineapple, I accidentally got some green Meadow Spark Ultra Fine Glitter on the edge of the adhesive.  Instead of freaking out about it, I added more green glitter all around the edges for a neat little frame.  Then I carefully peeled the adhesive paper away from the brass stencil, taking my time and going very slowly.  Because I had heavily soaped up the stencil, it peeled right off.

There is a large area of adhesive left when the stencil is taken off.  I covered the entire thing with Crystal Ice glitter and pressed it all in with my fingers.  I shook off the excess glitter and then squealed!  It's not too bad for my first attempt.

You can see I do have some glitter here and there in the white areas around the pineapple. I can see that next time, I will need to make sure that ALL the glitter is wiped off the stencil before I peel the paper away from the stencil. I also know that I will probably cover the outside adhesive with glitter before I add glitter to the inside stencil areas. The biggest thing I learned is to definitely soap up the stencil very well - it makes a world of difference when you try to remove the stencil from the adhesive.

Corner Flowers

Hi, Joy here letting you know about a great opportunity to win a prize by entering a Stencil Challenge at Classy Cards 'n Such. Here is what I did - first time using Pearlescent Embossing Paste.
  

I used the brass stencil called Corner Flowers by Dreamweavers.  I spread on a thin layer of Pearlescent Embossing Paste and let it dry.

While the image was drying, I stamped the Thinking of You sentiment from Hugs and Kisses Sentiments stamp set by JustRite, onto a stamped image of an ornament from Noel Christmas Ornaments, and cut out just the center of the ornament.

After the flower image dried, I placed the brass stencil back over them and colored each flower with a wood peg blending tool using Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads.  I was going for a water color, blended looking image.  

The cut out center was then popped up using Joy! Foam Pads Small, and added White Pearls to a few of the centers of the flowers.

This was then matted on teal cardstock that had been corner rounded.

Stencil, Foil and Glitter

Hi all!  Diane here with you today, sharing with you in detail how I made my stencil card for Challenge #16 - Stencils...I hope you will join the challenge

with a creation of your own!

For my card, I used the very gorgeous Dreamweaver stencil, Quilt Blocks. 

To begin, you need to cut a piece of 8 1/2" x 11" Double Sided Adhesive Sheet slightly larger then your stencil, leaving a border all around. Cut a piece of white card stock the same size and apply one side of the adhesive sheet to it.  Remove the backing from the card stock front. 

*HINT: The 8 1/2" x 11" Double Sided Adhesive Sheet is very sticky. I would try and take a bit of "stickiness" off first by pressing a Ziploc bag on it first or something like that,  before applying the stencil, making it easier to remove the stencil when ready.*

Using Handmade Hawaiian Coconut and Palm Oil Soap, apply it liberally to the backside of your stencil.   Lay your stencil on top of your Adhesive Sheet with a border all around.  Using a very thin craft foil, lay it on top of your stencil, and using a small stylus from the Paper Blossoms Paper Took Kit, start tapping it on to your stencil in an up and down motion. Pick it up now and then to make sure it is covering each design.  Don't worry if it isn't all completely filled in as that will happen later.  With your fingers, rub some of the foil along the border you have around the outside edge of the  stencil.  It doesn't have to be completely covered either.

Once you are satisfied you have the foil on where you want it, cover the entire piece with Ultra Fine Black Flower Soft.....lightly press/rub it on with you fingers. Lay a scrap piece of paper down and shake and tap off all the excess.  Try to get all the loose pieces off, you don't want to get it mixed up with your glitter. Ask me how I know!

Now here is the fun part. VERY carefully peel your stencil off the adhesive. You don't want to bend your stencil!  It sticks down pretty good, so take your time. This is also the reason you have to apply the Handmade Hawaiian Coconut and Palm Oil Soap first!

Grab your Sparkle 'n Sprinkle Ultra Fine Crystal Ice
glitter and cover the entire piece with it. Using a scrap piece of paper underneath will allow you to pour it back into the container.  Finish your card however you want.

A few hints if you want to give this a try. I would suggest trying a more full stencil piece for your first one.  Beverly has numerous ones in her shop listed under Brass Stencils to choose from. I have not tried this with a plastic stencil, just the metal stencils.
