Twinkling Butterflies Tutorial

Hello! Diana here today and I am combining a couple of my favorite things today:  watercolors and butterflies.

To make this card, I first collected all my dies that are what I call, the thin outlines dies. They are very dainty and are just full of possibilities. Here I have the Open Scroll Leaf by Impression Obsession, PoppyStamps Delaney Butterfly,  and the Memory Box Rhone Butterfly. As you can see, they are by different companies so you can mix and match any of them that you have.

First, I made a frame using Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics A and set that aside. I then die cut a couple of each outline dies in white card stock. I placed them inside my frame and glued one set very slightly where I wanted them. The next step is to use my Twinkling H2O's Thankful set, to color around the die cuts and the inside of the butterflies. The dies help me not to bleed too much outside of the lines, but I think that would be a cool effect too. I then removed the dies and glued on fresh white ones. 

I also decided to add a sentiment which I stamped and heat embossed with Black Detail embossing powder onto Vellum. I wrapped the Vellum around the painted watercolor paper, and then popped up my frame with Joy! Small Foam Pads to hide the seams.

Corner Garden Beauty

Hello Friends! It's Diane, glad to be with you here on the Classy Cards 'n Such blog today.

Can I say I LOVE a new product Classy Cards 'n Such is carrying in the shop? I can? Good, because I LOVE these new stencils Beverly has added.
  

The one I am showing you today is called Corner Flowers. It is a larger stencil, making a larger card, so soft and pretty. I just have to give you a small tutorial of how I created it!!

I started with one of my new, all time favorite papers Champaign Neenah Pearlized Metallic. I use this paper a lot, as it is gorgeous and a wonderful quality!

I cut a piece of watercolor paper slightly larger then the Corner Flowers brass stencil, and ran it through my Cuttlebug using the normal stacking sequence you would use to emboss a Spellbinders die.You will want to tape your die to the paper with removable tape before running it through your machine, and leave the tape on after embossing.

I am using the watercolor paper for two reasons.  One, it is a bit thicker then an ordinary paper, giving a nice deep impression, and two, it will allow me to color on it very easily.

To color the flowers, while the stencil is still taped to the paper, use "Perfect Medium" and pounce it over your entire stencil, until you can tell it is all covered. Perfect Medium is the pad, somewhat like Versamark that comes with your Perfect Pearls.

Carefully remove your tape from your stencil and lift the stencil off your paper (you don't want to bend your stencil or smear your paper).

Now, here is the fun part. With a small paint brush, just dip your brush into Perfect Pearls ( you just need a little bit) and start painting your colors on.  After all the flowers are painted, take a larger, soft brush, and brush all the excess perfect pearls off onto a scrap piece of paper. I then just slightly heat set the colors with my heat gun.   Wow, isn't it pretty?

Trim the extra off your finished piece, and slightly pop it up with Joy! Foam Pads, Large.

I stamped a beautiful sentiment from JustRite's Poppies Label Twenty Nine. Using a Spellbinders die set called  Decorative Labels Eight, I centered it over the sentiment and cut. I lightly sponged ink around the edge of the label, attached it to my card with Joy! Foam Pads Small.

To finish off my card I added a small amount of bling, using Amber Rhinestones.

Christmas Bendi Card

Hello! It's Diane here today at the Classy Cards 'n Such blog, to share with you a wonderful card I have made using the Bendi Card tutorial that is on Splitcoast Stampers. There is also a video that is by the designer of the tutorial.  I suggest you watch the video as it is very informative.

I have seen a few versions of this card. In fact, while visiting with my friends from three other states to share ideas, not only did I bring this idea along, but so did one of the other girls with a different version!!

This is really an easy card to do. I did learn a few tips along the way which I will share with you. I think the hardest part is deciding which dies to use!

For my card, I started with white cardstock and covered both the front and back pieces.

For the outside I used a glitter paper, but it was a very thick paper Tip: I would choose a thinner piece next time. It was hard to get it to bend.

The inside was covered with a piece of paper that I  had on hand...that is what is so fun, you can use anything you choose!

The dies I used on the front of my card are Winter Cabin Landscape and Tall Birch by Memory Box.

Inside I used  Deer Trio, Santa's Sleigh and Reindeer, Snowflowers Set 2, and Country House by Memory box.

Here is a quick tutorial of the measurements to start with. The way you decorate is up to you! The ideas are endless with all the wonderful die cuts we can purchase.  I will list a few links below for ideas. You will need to start with a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of cardstock.

Cut this piece at 4 1/4", leaving you with two panels measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".

Cut one of the panels at 2 1/2".  You will now have one piece for the base and two pieces for the swinging flaps.

Score 1/2" on each end of the swinging flaps. Trace a line lightly with pencil at 1/2" at the opposite side of the scored line. Tip:  I made my line slightly wider as I wanted my flap a bit bigger.

  Free hand cut two notches.

Trace a line with a pencil on the base piece of cardstock 4" from the end. Tip: I made mine slightly in more, as I wanted a bit more of a "bend".

Trace a line on the left swinging flap (the bigger one) 2" from the end. Mark with pencil on top of those two lines where you will make the slits for the notches to be inserted. Cut the slits with a hobby blade.  Tip: I lined up my flaps even with the bottom, and the notches to the markings, so I knew exactly where to cut my slits.

Erase all your pencil lines and marks. Add 1/4" Scor-Tape  to the end of the flaps on the scored side.

Hand draw the valleys at the top of each flap. Cut inside the trace line, adhere flaps to the base card.  Decorate as desired.

A tip for decorating, when covering your slits with paper, remember to flip your card over and recut them, and also don't cover up your slits with tape, pop ups, etc. when decorating. Most of all have fun!!

Shimmer Sheetz Cards and Tutorial

While spending some time last weekend with some wonderful friends, I learned about a "new to me" product called Shimmer Sheetz.

Products used:

Blue Iris Shimmer Sheetz

8 1/2" x 11" Double sided adhesive sheet Scor-Pal

Blooming Poinsettia die PoppyStamps 

PoppyStamps Gentle Leaf Die
Embossing Folder

Crystal Ice glitter

White detail Embossing Powder (used on the flower)
Cardstock
Brayer
StazOn Ink

What you can do with one sheet is amazing! I am here today to share a bit of what I have learned. You will be able to make three cards using one piece of Shimmer Sheetz! 

By cutting one piece of Shimmer Sheetz approximately 
4" x 5 1/4" to fit your A2 card front. Cut a panel from the double sided adhesive sheet the same size. You will get four different uses from your one piece of Shimmer Sheetz.  You will need to cut two panels out of the double sided adhesive sheet. Remove one side of your double sided adhesive sheet panel and apply to your card front. *Save the paper that you removed from the double sided adhesive sheet to use with your brayer in the next step.*

First card application

The first step is to run your Shimmer Sheetz piece through your embossing machine, using an Embossing Folder that has an all over pattern. Then you stick it to your double sided adhesive sheet that is already applied to your cardstock. Use the piece of paper saved from the double sided adhesive sheet, lay it over the top of your Shimmer Sheetz, and roll a brayer across it several times, pressing down as you go. Carefully lift your Shimmer Sheetz off and set it aside with the unused side up (for now).

Now you might not think it looks like much at this point, but the next step changes all that. Using a microfine  glitter and cover the entire piece. Shake the excess off onto paper to return to your container, and burnish the glitter with your finger (yes, you will be wearing glitter, but not to worry, it looks good on you).  You will see the result below. Stunning, isn't it??

Second card application

But wait, we have more to do!  Apply your second piece of double sided adhesive sheet to your other piece of cardstock. FLIP your Shimmer Sheetz over to the side you didn't use and once again brayer it to the double sided adhesive sheet.  Repeat the step above for the glitter, and you will have the negative of the embossing folder. I have shown both below to show the contrast and left the second card bare so you can see the difference.

Note:  Both the first and second techniques above ONLY work with the IRIS Shimmer Sheetz.

Third card application

We still aren't done yet, there is even more! Take the

Shimmer Sheetz and lightly sand it...look at the result! Now you can stop at this step and use it as is, OR take it to the next step like I did, by rubbing your StazOn ink pad across the entire piece for the look I have shown below!

How Thoughtful Card and Envelope Punch Board Tutorial

Hi - Joy here today with an acknowledgement note card and a product review!

Classy Cards 'n Such has some BEAUTIFUL paper pads. This card features Harvest Lane 6" x 6" paper pad by Simple Stories.

The frame is from the stamp set Botanical Medallions and Banners by JustRite. The sentiment is from Thanks Sentiments by Impression Obsession.

I used my favorite die from Cheery Lynn Designs called Allison's Ribbons for the tiny scallop edge on the polka dot and the Spellbinders die called Nested Oval Medallion Label Dies and a bit of thick twine.

Here is the product review:

Oh my, this is one of the best tools to come along in a long time! It is fabulous and EASY to use!  After I made this card, I realized it measured 5.5" x 4", and I did not have an envelope the correct size.  My envelopes were either too big - which looked awful - or too small.  I made an envelope that fits perfectly with the Envelope Punch Board:

1. Select the card size according to the convenient chart indicated in the first column on board.

2. Trim paper to the correct paper size indicated in the second column on board.

3. Align left edge to the score line measurement indicated in the third column on board.

4. Line up with the blue score guide and score.

5. Rotate and score the 4 sides, put each corner in the reverse punch.

6. Fold on score lines and glue.

7. Slide the card into the envelope.

You will LOVE this tool.  It is amazing and it's not too early to be asking Santa for one!  Beverly has them in the store right here. 

Hints:  I found that light weight paper makes better envelopes than cardstock.  I used the reverse punch on the board to round the corners on my card.

I found out my card size is called a 5-bar card size - never head of it.  They say you learn something every day. I learned a new card size and how to make a quickie envelope for any size cards!

Hello, it's Shelly and I have a great card for you today!

By now, most of you have seen the cards that use the same beautiful die cut for the front and back of the card.  The sample card uses Spellbinders A2 Filigree Delight, a Spellbinders label die for the Scripture and a Viva Decor Pearl Pen for the for the shaped flower center.  The flower were shaped using  Paper Blossoms Craft Molding Mat and Paper Blossoms Paper Tool Kit.

 

It looks difficult, but let me break down the steps to show you just how simple it really is.  The numbered steps coordinate with the numbered pictures.

1.  I am using a double sided, card stock weight scrapbook paper that has a big contrast in color to make it easier for you to distinguish the inside from the outside.  Cut two pieces that are at least ½ inch bigger on all sides than your die.  The die used is Spellbinders A2 Filigree Delight.

 

2.  The die is taped down to the rust side of the paper.  I use a low tack painters tape and it can be used over and over.  The rust side will now be the FRONT of the card.

3.  In this picture, the die and paper have already been run through the machine several times and it is not cutting at the top and the bottom.  The solution is to cut some scrap cardstock the size of the area that is not cutting, place it over that area and run it through again.

4.  Now for your second piece of double sided scrapbook paper which will be the back of the card.  Since the rust side is going to be my back, it is folded over onto the green side.  Depending on the die that you use, you will want to fold over from ½ to 1 inch.

5.  Here is the die under the folded paper.  There is enough space on either side and the bottom to tape the die firmly to the paper.  Be sure the die is placed evenly on the paper.  You will have to use a shim on the folded area and run it through several times to get it to cut.  Be patient, the results are well worth the effort.

6. Here is a view of the inside front and inside back with the folded flap open.

7. Now you will fold that flap back down and place the back on the front.  Line it up carefully and attach.

8. Here is the view of the inside after gluing.

9. A view of the card that shows the front and the inside of the design after attaching the back to the front.
