Sending Cheer

Hi, it's Misti today!

I planted all kinds of flowers in early spring with high hopes of a beautiful garden.  Then we got the notice that we had outside water restrictions. Top that off with very little rain this summer and my beautiful garden didn't happen.  I'm still hopeful to be able to try again this fall! Thankfully, flower cards aren't as high maintenance!  LOL

Supplies Used:
Blueprints 3 by My Favorite Things
Chrysanthemum by Flourishes
Dots embossing folder by Crafts Too!
Tim Holtz distress marker: Peeled Paint, Scattered Straw
Detailer Water Brush
Seam Binding - Eggshell

The card started off with a white card base. Next layer would be black cardstock to make the yellow polka dot paper pop from the Summer Fresh 6 x 6 paper pad. I like how this piece of yellow polka dot paper matches the Scattered Straw marker. I love matchy-matchy!!!  *grin*

I used the Dots embossing folder on the black piece of cardstock to add a little more texture.

I stamped the Chrysanthemum and colored the flower with the Scattered Straw distress marker.  The stem of the flower was colored with the Peeled Paint distress marker.

Finally, I added the ribbon to the card and sentiment. The tag is from the Blueprints 3.

This card is fairly quick and easy to make. You could change the coloring of the flower and the base black cardstock for a whole different look!

Love your card, Misti!!  Thanks!!!

Double Gate Fold Card

Today we have a cute card from our guest designer, Shelly! Gingham patterns seem to be another popular trend that remind us of country kitchens to fashion designs. Shelly shows us how to add that touch of gingham to flowers.

Classy Cards 'n Such products used:
Tim Holtz Distressed Ink

Other supplies:
Brown paper bag
Small design embossing folder
Joy Crafts flower die set 6002/0160
Computer generated phrase
Spellbinders Label die
Various sizes of circular punches

To start, you need a card base measuring 12" x 5.50". Score the card base at 2", 4", 8", and 10" and fold to match what is shown in the picture  below.

It may be hard to see but I sponged the outer edges of the card base, flowers and sentiment label with the dark brown distressed ink pad.

I used various colors of ink, one color at a time, and stamped the Impressions Obsession Cover-A-Card Gingham stamp on a separate piece of white cardstock.

After the stamping was done, I die cut different sizes of flowers, using assorted dies or punches. Next I sponged the edges of the flowers with a dark brown distressed Ink pad.

To dress the flowers a bit, the next step was to use the Spellbinders Foliage die cut. I cut some of these apart to put under the flower petals.

To finish off the center of the flowers, I used a medium brown card stock in a small design embossing folder. This gives a finished look for the flower. I used my circular punches or dies to make the centers of the flowers.

For the center of the card, I took a brown paper bag and stamped the Impressions Obsession Cover-A-Card Gingham stamp. I cut this to about 4" x 5.50" to fit inside the card. You may have to cut it slightly smaller than the 4" width, so don't glue it in until you have tested to see how it fits.

On a piece of scrap card stock, either stamp or print out your sentiment and attach to the card. I used a Spellbinders label. I used some of my stamped flowers and leaves and arranged them around the label.

Now, the really fun part! It's time to decorate the outside of the card. I carefully  paper clipped the card shut and laid out the flowers until I was satisfied. Glue everything in place and your card is ready to go!!

This is another fun way to show how versatile the Impressions Obsession Cover-A-Card Gingham stamp can be used!

Great way to dress up your flowers! Thanks Shelly!!

Stickled Tea Rose

Hi Classy friends!  It's Holly posting today, and I have a shimmery, glittery flower to share with you.  Classy Cards 'n Such just got some new Stickles colors in the store, and I grabbed some as soon as I saw them. Stickles are colored glitters suspended in bottles of glue, so you just squirt it out onto your project and let it dry.

For my card today, I started by pulling out the Blueprints #4  die set by My Favorite Things, and I played around with the different dies.  I settled on this layout, and cut out some watercolor paper with the largest rectangle die (there are three small rectangles in this set).  I temporarily glued three of the watercolor paper rectangles down onto my table, inked up the Old Tea Rose stamp by Flourishes, with permanent gray ink, and stamped it onto the rectangles.

After waiting a few minutes to make sure the ink was dry, I pulled out some Distress Markers and my Water Brush and colored in the rose.  I used the Spun Sugar Distress Ink Marker and the Victorian Velvet Distress Ink Marker for the rose petals, Peeled Paint Distress Ink Marker and Shabby Shutters Distress Ink Marker on the stem and leaves.  I set these three pieces aside to dry completely while I assembled the rest of the card.

The A2 card base is a dark green cardstock folded in half.  I pulled out the Love Letters Premium 6 x 6 Paper Pad and found this lovely pale pink paper that matched my Tea Rose nicely.  I cut this paper with the largest die in the Blueprints 4 and adhered it to my dark green card base.  The same Love Letters Premium 6 x 6 Paper Pad had a darker rose pink paper in there, so I cut that out with the long rectangle die from the Blueprints 4.  I cut out the small scallop border, (also from Blueprints 4), twice with dark green cardstock and then adhered it behind the dark rose rectangle.

When the watercolor rose was completely dry, I sponged all three pieces with Antique Linen distress ink.  Then I pulled out the Stickles and had some fun!  I used Pink Taffeta Stickles on the flower and Mercury Glass Stickles on the stem and leaves.  I just squirted out a little bit and then used my finger to dab it around here and there.  I didn't want to completely cover up the image; I just wanted a nice hint of glitter and shimmer.

Once these pieces dried, I glued them down onto the dark rose piece and then glued that down on my card. The lower right corner seemed a bit empty, so I stamped the butterfly from the Old Tea Rose stamp set by Flourishes onto watercolor paper.  I colored it with the same Distress Markers as the flower with  Spun Sugar Distress Ink Marker and Victorian Velvet Distress Ink Marker, and let it dry.  I carefully cut it out with scissors and then dabbed some Pink Taffeta Stickles on the butterfly wings before affixing it to the card.

How pretty are those Stickles?  I love 'em!  I also love these new Blueprints die sets - they make card layouts so easy! Give them a try - I know you'll have fun with them!

Your card is so soft and glittery! Thanks Holly!!

Merry Christmas

Hi, it's Joy today, posting a colorful Christmas Card for Classy Cards 'n Such!  My goal this year is to get all my Christmas cards mailed by the first week in December - so I've got to get going!

This uses my favorite of all time background stamp called Vines - Cover A Card using a Mega Mount Block.  It was stamped in a light green. I turned the cardstock, inked up the block again in a lighter green and stamped over the first stamping.

I used a Viva Decor Pearl Pen in red to make some holly berries.  I then stamped one of the ornaments and a sentiment from JustRite's Noel Christmas Ornaments.

Using a background stamp in different directions and colors is a great way to make background papers for your cards and other crafting ideas.

I hope I inspired you to try your hand at making something new and colorful!

Great card for the holidays! Thanks Joy!!

Christmas Poinsettias

Hi, it's Misti!

A  few weeks ago, my youngest son and I had to make a trip into a big craft store for a couple of art items on the school supply list.  We walked in on a mission to get the items and get out.  As we were walking through the store, he looked at me and asked, "Christmas is still months away, right?"   I tried to explain that crafters needed to be able to buy supplies early to be able to make things.  The days between school starting and Christmas break seem to go by very quickly.  I decided I needed to ramp up my Christmas card making just a tad or I would be in a frenzy come December.

I used the My Favorite Things - Blueprints 3 for the scalloped border.  I love, love this!!!  I can't wait to use the other components of this set.  It is so versatile!  I KNOW the other set will jump into my cart soon!  *wink*

Other supplies used:
Embossing folder: Flower Flourish by Crafts Too!
Tim Holtz Distress markers: Forest Moss, Barn Door, Fired Brick, Mustard Seed, Vintage Photo

A very pretty Christmas card! Thanks Misti!!

Framed Flowers

Hi, it's Shelly posting today! I really let loose with colors on today's card. I invite you to follow along and then check out Classy Cards 'n Such store for great deals.

Supplies used:

I started with a plain white A2 card base and covered it with lavender card stock. To highlight, I sponged the edges with Tim Holtz Purple Distress Ink.

The next step was to cut a frame using one of the Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics A dies that is about a 1/2 inch smaller than the card front and also one of the Spellbinders Labels Twenty-nine dies.

To achieve this look, center the label die inside the mat die and tape the dies in position, cut, and emboss. It helps to emboss with the rubber mat for a clean cut. To create a 3-D effect, I attached the flat part of cut up paper egg cartons to the back of the frame.

Using another piece of white card stock, die cut Memory Box’s Bella Bouquet. I had to cut part of the die cut off to get it to fit inside of the frame.

For the background panel under the flower, I used glossy card stock and applied various ink colors blended together to acheive an alcohol ink technique called Polished Stone. This is a great way to create a background that does not overpower the die cut and provides good contrast. I cut this panel slightly smaller than the frame and attached it to the back of the frame.

Center the framed layers on the card base and attach.

Lay the Memory Box flower die cut inside the frame.  I had to cut apart the die cut to get it to look right.  When you are satisfied with the look, attach the die cut to the background.

Finally, in the lower right hand corner I attached three shiny bling pieces that I had in my stash.

I hope you enjoyed the card and steps used to create my card!

Check out Classy Cards 'n Such for great deals on many of the supplies I used. If you are unable to find a product, you can email Beverly at the store and she will order it in for you! Now that's "Classy" service!

A beautiful work of art! Thanks Shelly!!
