Holiday Cheer

Hi - Joy posting a Christmas card today for Classy Cards 'n Such.  Beverly Bohannon, owner of Classy Cards 'n Such is making my Christmas card list easy to whittle down with so many great supplies.

I used my most favorite background stamp called Vines - Cover-A-Card by Impression Obsession.  I used Sparkle 'n Sprinkle Gold Detail embossing powder on the vines and on the sentiment Holiday Cheer, from Noel Christmas Ornaments by JustRite.  A Spellbinders die called Fancy Tags on the ribbon, sits on two Nested Oval Medallion Labels Dies.

One thing I'd like to say about the Sparkle 'n Sprinkle Gold Detail embossing powder - it is the best!  The fine powder makes even the smallest detail clean and clear. Try it one time and you will agree!

Your card is so pretty and detailed!! Thanks Joy!!!

Autumn Thanks

Hi folks, it's Holly posting today!  I'm more than ready for the fall season to arrive, so I pulled out the new Autumn Blessings stamp set by Flourishes and had a blast water coloring it last night.

I started by stamping this Autumn Blessings image onto watercolor paper with some permanent black ink.  I then used the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Markers and the Tim Holtz Water Brush to color in this image.  Below is a list of the colors I used:

Pumice Stone (milk jug) - sold out
Dusty Concord (seed balls) - sold out
Shabby Shutters (leaves, grass)
Peeled Paint (leaves, grass)
Scattered Straw (wheat, sunflower, pumpkin, grass)
Wild Honey (sunflower, pumpkin)
Spiced Marmalade (pumpkin, top flower)
Dried Marigold (pumpkin, lower right flower)
Tattered Rose (tiny flowers below sunflower)
Rusty Hinge (pumpkin)
Tea Dye (centers of flowers)
Brushed Corduroy (center of flowers)
Walnut Stain (center of flowers)

You can buy the markers individually or you can get the whole set here.  If you want the two colors that are sold out, you can always email the owner, Beverly Bohannon, and she will be more than happy to order those for you.  :-)

I set this water colored image aside to dry completely while I played around with my card layout.  This image fit perfectly into the arch die shape from the new Blueprints #3 die set by My Favorite Things, so I decided to play with the rest of the dies in this set to create my card.

Once my colored piece was dry, I cut it out with the arch die and glued it down onto a dark brown card base. Next, I added a little strip of burlap below the arch. Then I cut out the scallop border from dark orange cardstock and glued it to the top of the burlap.  The pierced strip was cut from mustard cardstock and adhered over the dark orange scallop border.

I cut the little tag from watercolor cardstock and stamped the sentiment (also from Autumn Blessings) with permanent black ink and then adhered that to the mustard border.  The tag, scallop border, and pierced strip dies are all in the same Blueprints #3 set.

I had so much fun water coloring this image with the markers and playing around with the different shapes in the Blueprints #3 die set.  I'm definitely going to order some more Blueprints dies and have fun mixing and matching all the different shapes.

What a pretty card for the Fall season! Thanks Holly!!

For this Child

Hello, it's Shelly and I have a great card for you today!

By now, most of you have seen the cards that use the same beautiful die cut for the front and back of the card.  The sample card uses Spellbinders A2 Filigree Delight, a Spellbinders label die for the Scripture and a Viva Decor Pearl Pen for the for the shaped flower center.  The flower were shaped using  Paper Blossoms Craft Molding Mat and Paper Blossoms Paper Tool Kit.

It looks difficult, but let me break down the steps to show you just how simple it really is.  The numbered steps coordinate with the numbered pictures.

1.  I am using a double sided, card stock weight scrapbook paper that has a big contrast in color to make it easier for you to distinguish the inside from the outside.  Cut two pieces that are at least ½ inch bigger on all sides than your die.  The die used is Spellbinders A2 Filigree Delight.

2.  The die is taped down to the rust side of the paper.  I use a low tack painters tape and it can be used over and over.  The rust side will now be the FRONT of the card.

3.  In this picture, the die and paper have already been run through the machine several times and it is not cutting at the top and the bottom.  The solution is to cut some scrap cardstock the size of the area that is not cutting, place it over that area and run it through again.

4.  Now for your second piece of double sided scrapbook paper which will be the back of the card.  Since the rust side is going to be my back, it is folded over onto the green side.  Depending on the die that you use, you will want to fold over from ½ to 1 inch.

5.  Here is the die under the folded paper.  There is enough space on either side and the bottom to tape the die firmly to the paper.  Be sure the die is placed evenly on the paper.  You will have to use a shim on the folded area and run it through several times to get it to cut.  Be patient, the results are well worth the effort.

6. Here is a view of the inside front and inside back with the folded flap open.

7. Now you will fold that flap back down and place the back on the front.  Line it up carefully and attach.

8. Here is the view of the inside after gluing.

9. A view of the card that shows the front and the inside of the design after attaching the back to the front.

Some other dies that might work with this technique –
Lattice Rectangles

Now that you know just how easy this card design is, you will look at all of Spellbinders rectangle and even oval dies in a new light.  Beware, this technique is very addictive!

Lovely card and great tutorial! Thanks Shelly!!

Give Thanks

Hi, Joy here today!

East Texas does not look very fallish but I'm ready for it!  Have you ever needed a card in a hurry?  Today was that day for me.  I needed to get an encouraging card in the mail before the mailman came.  I had some great stamp sets already out on my desk from Classy Cards 'n Such, so away I stamped.

Here is what came out of the pile on my desk.

The papers I used are from French Country 6 x 6 by Graphic 45 (green), The Lake House 6.5" x 6.5" paper pad by Kaiser (pink floral and polka dot) and the wood panel is from Simple Stories called Vintage Bliss 6" x 6" paper pad

The stamp set is Autumn Blessings by Flourishes. I used a Spellbinder die, and stamped the sheaf of wheat from this stamp set directly onto the polka dot paper.  The sentiments in this set can be used all year round, not just for the autumn season.

A simple card and quick to put together.  Since there are no bows or buttons, this will be a "mail friendly" card.

Be sure to check out Classy Cards n' Such store. There are a bunch of new products Beverly has added.  There are some really great Christmas items!

Your card is so lovely!! Thanks Joy!!!

Cherry Bomb Pinwheel

Hi, it's Misti with another fun card for Classy Cards 'n Such!

When Beverly mentioned to the design team that she was adding some Candy Stripers embellishments to her Classy Cards 'n Such shop, I had never heard of them.  I felt like it was my duty to order some to know what she was talking about!  *grin*

Supplies used:
Pinwheels and Popsicles by Flourishes
Summer Fresh 6 x 6 paper pad - Red Gingham paper
Dots Embossing Folder by Crafts Too!
Tim Holtz distress markers-- Antique LinenBarn Door

When I make a card that requires coloring, I always stamp my image and do everything I'm going to do to it before I color it... just in case I mess it up.  I've learned this the hard way!  LOL

For this card, I took the Classic Scalloped Ovals Large and cut the pinwheel out. While I'm cutting and embossing, I do everything at once, so I cut the sentiment out and ran the Dots Embossing Folder on the white panel.

Next I colored my image in.  I chose the easy way and used Barn Door with a hint of Antique Linen on the straw with the Detailer Water Brush.

I cut the red gingham piece just a little bit larger than my ovals. I taped down the gingham panel, then added 2 pieces of White Satin String.

For the last steps, I added the oval panel on top of the cord, placed the sentiment oval on top and then topped it off with a cherry... a Cherry Bomb Candy Striper that is!

Your card is so fun and cute! Thanks Misti!!

Simple Pumpkins

Hello! Diane with you today on the Classy Cards 'n Such blog. Can you feel Fall is in the air?  Somehow September just feels "different".  Makes me think of apples, mums and pumpkins. It puts me right in the mood to make a  Fall card.

One of the things I love to do is try to think outside of the box with my dies. For some reason, I kept looking at the Cheery Lynn Designs Build A Flower #3 and some of the flower petals reminded me of pumpkins!!

*Quick Tip: Look at your dies and embossing folders from different angles. You might discover new shapes!!*

I went with that feeling and created this "elegant" Fall card. I colored my pumpkins with my PanPastels Flower Coloring Kit-Susan's Garden using the colors Diarylide Yellow and Orange.

The pumpkin leaves were made using the Cheery Lynn Designs Wreath Strip die and using the PanPastel colors Bright Yellow Green and Red Iron Oxide to color them. The pumpkins were popped up on an embossed background
using Crafts-Too! embossing folder Leafy Tree.

Here is a closer look at the card, so maybe you can see the detail better.

I hope you have enjoyed today's post..see you soon!!

Great tip with the dies! A very pretty card! Thanks Diane!

Tidings of Joy

Hi, it's Holly posting today.  Have you started on your Christmas cards yet?  Here is a quick and easy country-themed holiday card that I whipped up in less than an hour.

Isn't that scene gorgeous?  This stamped scene is from the new Country Time Christmas stamp set (Flourishes) that just arrived in the store.  I stamped it onto some Kraft cardstock and used colored pencils to very lightly color in the scene.  This is the Sepia Technique from Technique Junkies.  I sponged some brown ink around the edges and then distressed the edges with a distress tool.  I cut a larger white mat, distressed the edges with a distress tool, and adhered the stamped scene onto the white layer.

Next, I cut out a small white rectangle from the Blueprints 4 die set and stamped the sentiment with brown ink.  This sentiment is also from the new Country Time Christmas set.  A sheet of Kraft cardstock was cut in half (5.5" x 8.5") and folded in half to make a top folded card base.

I wrapped some Chalk White seam binding around the card, punched a small hole at the bottom left side of my stamped scene, threaded the seam binding through the hole, glued the scene down onto my card base, and tied the seam binding into a knot.  The sentiment was adhered to the top right side of the stamped scene.

I love the soft and rustic look of this card.  This new Country Time Christmas stamp set is going to see a lot of ink from me this year.  The scene is gorgeous and the sentiments are so beautiful and versatile.

What a great Christmas scene! Thanks, Holly!

Sending Cheer

Hi, it's Misti today!

I planted all kinds of flowers in early spring with high hopes of a beautiful garden.  Then we got the notice that we had outside water restrictions. Top that off with very little rain this summer and my beautiful garden didn't happen.  I'm still hopeful to be able to try again this fall! Thankfully, flower cards aren't as high maintenance!  LOL

Supplies Used:
Blueprints 3 by My Favorite Things
Chrysanthemum by Flourishes
Dots embossing folder by Crafts Too!
Tim Holtz distress marker: Peeled Paint, Scattered Straw
Detailer Water Brush
Seam Binding - Eggshell

The card started off with a white card base. Next layer would be black cardstock to make the yellow polka dot paper pop from the Summer Fresh 6 x 6 paper pad. I like how this piece of yellow polka dot paper matches the Scattered Straw marker. I love matchy-matchy!!!  *grin*

I used the Dots embossing folder on the black piece of cardstock to add a little more texture.

I stamped the Chrysanthemum and colored the flower with the Scattered Straw distress marker.  The stem of the flower was colored with the Peeled Paint distress marker.

Finally, I added the ribbon to the card and sentiment. The tag is from the Blueprints 3.

This card is fairly quick and easy to make. You could change the coloring of the flower and the base black cardstock for a whole different look!

Love your card, Misti!!  Thanks!!!
